Deputy Secretary-General of the Government

Tahir Hani is the Deputy Secretary-General of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia.

Tahir Hani was born on 15 December 1961 in the village Veleshta of Struga, where he also finished primary and secondary education. He is a law graduate at the State University of Tetova.

Tahir Hani was an activist of the national cause during the time of the Former Yugoslav Federation and fought for the equality of the Albanians in this region.

As a student at the University of Prishtina in the period from 1982/85, Tahir Hani was engaged in the Illegal Movement for the Republic of Kosovo.

On 6 November 1985, Tahir Hani was imprisoned and after investigations by the Court of Appeal in Bitola, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

After his release from prison in 1990, Tahir Hani continued his activities for the full equality of the Albanians in the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as the realization of aspirations for the independence of the Republic of Kosovo.

He has been a member of the central leadership of the Democratic Union for Integration since 2002, a position he continues to hold.

Tahir Hani exercised the function of the Mayor of Veleshta in the period from 2000-2005.

Tahir Hani was the Director of PMC for Hygiene in the Municipality of Struga in the period from 2005 to 2006.

Tahir Hani was voted as a member of parliament in the mandates 2006-2008 and 2008-2011. He was Coordinator of the group of MP-s of the Democratic Union for Integration in the mandate 2008 – 2011.

In July 2012 Tahir Hani was appointed Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of North Macedonia.

In the period from February 2013 to July 2014, Tahir Hani was appointed Minister of Local Self-Government.

In June 2014 Tahir Hani was appointed Deputy Secretary-General of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, and reappointed in April 2018.
