Zaev from Brdo-Kranj: If EU declarations are not translated into deeds, irreparable damage will be inflicted to the great European idea

The President of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, today started his activities set out in the agenda for his working visit to Slovenia on the occasion of the EU-Western Balkans in Brdo near Kranj. 

Prime Minister Zaev had a joint meeting with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the Euro-Commissioner on Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Jansha and the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev. 

At the meeting the interlocutors underlined the importance of the EU enlargement with the Western Balkans countries. Moreover, they welcomed that, for Brussels, the enlargement of the union with the countries from the region remains a strategic priority and this is expected to be noted in today’s Declaration from the Summit. 

Prime Minister Zaev emphasized that the peoples from the Western Balkans expect that EU declarations will be translated into deeds and actions and that if EU does not act, the people’s disappointment will be irreparable and will inflict serious damage to the great European idea for unity and co-operation.
