Secretary-General of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia

Metodija Dimovski was born on July 16th, 1966, in Skopje.

He graduated geography science in 1989 from the University of “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” – Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and later, in 1994, he obtained master’s degree in geography science – (hydrology and climatology) at the University of Belgrade. 

Dimovski was appointed Secretary General of the Government in April 2022. 

He has more than 20 years of work experience in civil service of which fifteen on high management positions. Dimovski has worked on institutional and organizational development, building capacities, managing public service and human resources, as well as in the area of environmental issues. 

Dimovski started his civil service career in 1993 in the Ministry of Urbanism, Construction and Environment (later Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning). Later he was appointed Assistant Minster and Head of the Sector for Environment. During his career in the Ministry Dimovski was responsible for international and multilateral cooperation and represented the institution in the Working Committee on European Integrations, as well as in the UN working bodies for environment. 

In the period 2003-2010 he was Secretary General of the Civil Servants Agency, leading the reforms of the public administration and the development of human resources system for more than sixty institutions from the central power and local self-government. 

In 2011 he worked in the Ministry of Economy on the position head of sector for inspection surveillance, within the State Inspectorate for Technical Inspection while in the period 2011-2012 in the OSCE Mission as National Officer for public administration reforms. 

In the period 2013-2017 Dimovski worked as an expert/consultant on numerous projects in the country and abroad, for international organizations, including the Regional Environment Center from Budapest, the UNDP, ReSPA, Milieukontakt Macedonia and other consultant houses. 

During the period 2017-2022 he was a member of the Council of Inspection Authorities in charge of environment and protection of people’s health. Beside coordination of the work of the inspection authorities, he was actively involved in enhancement of the inspection surveillance, digitalization of the work, including development of the platforms e-Training and e-Inspector. 

During his career Dimovski participated in numerous international conferences, congresses, seminars, and trainings organized by eminent networks and schools, such as the Program for Innovation in the Public Administration (InnovMed), European network for public administration (EUPAN), French National School for Administration (ENA), the US Institute of Peace, SIGMA, ReSPA and others. Moreover, he was member of several steering committees for implementation of the IPA and other donors’ projects in the area of public administration and environment. 

Beside his native language, Macedonian, he actively uses English, Serbian, Croatian and Bosnian languages, and has basic knowledge of Albanian and French. 

Dimovski is married and a proud father of two children.
