Macedonian prominent folk ensemble 'Tanec' gets memorial room
A memorial room, displaying mementos, photographs and awards the Macedonian prominent folk ensemble 'Tanec' collected during its career, was promoted Thursday in Skopje. The project is financed by the Ministry of Culture.
The memorial room is a significant project, which presents the ensemble's development and achievements throughout the years, Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska said at the promoting ceremony.
"Tanec is a mobile museum and and best brand for promoting the Macedonian identity, folklore, tradition, songs, dances, and I believe that all citizens are proud of it," Kanceska-Milevska said.
She also extended gratitude to Tanec for its contribution to the humanitarian campaign for reconstruction of Treskavec monastery. Namely, the ensemble will hold about about ten concerts, starting tomorrow evening in the city of Prilep.
The Macedonian TV will broadcast the concert, accompanied by open phone donation campaign, Tanec Director Zoran Dzorlev said.
The Tanec Ensemble was founded by the Government of the People's Republic of Macedonia in 1949 with an aim to collect, preserve and present the Macedonian folklore: folk songs, dances, instruments, national costumes etc.
It is considered as an ambassador of the Macedonian folklore tradition worldwide.
During the several decades of its existence Tanec has taken part in over 3500 concerts and festivals around the world including: USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, USSR, France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Kuwait, Israel, Egypt, Nigeria, Mali, Senegal, Zaire and many other countries as well as concerts across the former Yugoslavia.
