Ivanovski: Half of Macedonian population uses Internet
Broadband Internet is available to 40 percent of Macedonian households, while half of the population uses Internet, Minister of Information Society and Administration Ivo Ivanovski told the International Regulatory Conference in Ohrid on Tuesday.
Ivanovski said Macedonia is actively participating in the UN Broadband Commission for Digital Development and has already met the 2015 targets.
"According to the latest report of the State Statistical Office, about 60 percent of households in Macedonia have access to broadband internet, used by 60 percent of citizens", he added.
The Government resumes with the implementation of the programme or development of information society. Targets include 80-percent broadband internet coverage, increase of households using the internet, increased online sale of products by SMEs to 33 percent, lowering of roaming prices, as well as rise in number of e-public services.
Representatives of regulatory bodies in Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Finland, Turkey, Croatia, Romania, Cyprus, Moldova, Belgium, Albania, Kosovo and other countries from the region and Europe, officials of the International Telecommunication Union and of the Board of Directors of the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications participate at the 3rd International Regulatory Conference, held May 19-20 in Ohrid.
