PM Gruevski: Reached agreement - positive impetus for Macedonia's political situation
Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski considers that an agreement, reached yesterday at a meeting of party leaders with EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn, is a positive impetus for the political situation in Macedonia.
"I see yesterday's event as a positive impetus and will add nothing more to Commissioner Hahn's statement. I believe that there is a need for utmost constructiveness, without speculations and spreading of false statements. To keep on and achieve what is important for and what the state needs - stability and security," Gruevski told TV Sitel on Wednesday.
He called on all who wished well for the country to act constructively and put state interests above everything else.
Yesterday's meeting of the leaders of four main parties in Macedonia -- VMRO-DPMNE, SDSM, DUI and DPA -- with Commissioner Hahn resulted in an agreement on early parliamentary elections to be held by the end of April 2016.
"Our idea was for regular elections to be called in 2018, after the expiration of the mandate of the incumbent Government. Depriving citizens of the possibility to see fully wrapped up mandate of VMRO-DPMNE with all realized projects is a handicap. I am sorry that in this period we have been disabled to complete our mandate and demonstrate our performances and achievements to citizens after a four-year term. We know that citizens are tired of early elections. They wish to see this Government to fully serve its mandate and be called for elections less frequently," Gruevski said.
