Another set of books promoted as part of Stars of World Literature edition
Another 32 books of the edition entitled “Stars of World Literature” were promoted Thursday, thus bringing the total to 442 books translated and published so far as part of this government-run project.
The newly-promoted books include translations of Gargantua and Pantagruel by Francois Rabelais, War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy, The Man without Qualities by Robert Musil, poetry by ancient Greek poets, plays by Tennessee Williams, novels by Flaubert, Balzac, Dickens, Faulkner, Amado, etc.
“Today we promote works by great authors… Their greatness is a timeless inspiration for many book-fans around the world, thus these books are always in a great demand in every developed country in the world. Consequently, these works are also part of our project,” Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski said at today’s book promotion.
In the past several years, improvements have been made in publishing, authors have been motivated to create and the funds of libraries all over Macedonia have been increased, Minister of Culture Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska said.
“Over 4,200 various editions in Macedonian and in languages of the communities in Macedonia, magazines, publications have been published since 2006 with support provided by the Culture Ministry. More than 47,000 publications have been purchased so as to enrich the funds of libraries in Macedonia… All of these activities have been improving the creative, translating and publishing climate in Macedonia and I believe that they will have a lasting cultural impact in the country,” stated Kanceska-Milevska.
The 560-book edition “Stars of World Literature” is expected to be concluded by the end of 2015.
