Gruevski: Political crisis solved

Early parliamentary elections will be held on 24 April 2016. Hundred days prior to the elections, VMRO-DPMNE will nominate an interim Prime Minister, which will be a systematic solution for all subsequent elections. SDSM returns to the Parliament on 1 September and will nominate an interim minister of interior, along with the election of a new public prosecutor.

Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski presented early Wednesday the agreement reached after a day-long meeting of party leaders, mediated by Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn, saying the political crisis in Macedonia has been solved, and voiced satisfaction from the outcome.

"The political crisis in Macedonia has been solved, Macedonia's European perspectives remain open, and the economy will continue to grow, meaning new jobs and investments", said Gruevski and thanked all those who assisted in the process, primarily the EU, United States, the three Members of European Parliament and especially Commissioner Hahn.

According to the agreement, the Government will resign 100 days prior to the parliamentary elections, a systematic solution for all subsequent elections. In the current situation, VMRO-DPMNE will nominate an interim PM for the period starting on 15 January 2016 up to the elections scheduled on 24 April 2016.

"In order to prevent any excuse over the results from the elections, we agreed that SDSM, in prior consultation with VMRO-DPMNE and DUI, nominates a technical Minister of Interior as of October 20, meaning a person that is in no way tied to any political party", stressed Gruevski.

SDSM will also nominate a Minister of Labor and Social Policy, while VMRO-DPMNE will nominate deputies in both ministries with a right to insight and veto to all election-related issues. SDSM will nominate such deputy-ministers in the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Information Society and Administration. All other VMRO-DPMNE ministers will remain in the Government up to Election Day.

"Towards increasing trust in a highly politicized atmosphere, we agreed that a new public prosecutor is elected up to 15 September, agreed by all four political parties, who will carry out the investigations over the wiretapped communications", added Gruevski.

According to him, SDSM has done everything for the talks to fail.

"Macedonia was the guide in today's talks. Macedonia knows us well and will choose wisely. I am certain the people will support us in masses on April 24", underlined PM Gruevski.
