Macedonia possible gateway of the United Arab Emirates to Europe, Gruevski says
Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski met Monday His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Interlocutors underlined the commitment for improvement of relations in all spheres of mutual interest, Government press service informs.
They underlined that two countries have no open issues and pointed out the need to intensify the political dialogue through high-level meetings, which would contribute to strengthening the cooperation on economic, cultural and educational plan. They especially emphasized the need and interest in promoting economic cooperation, press release reads.
They also concluded that there is great potential for increasing foreign trade between the two countries. Gruevski said that the country's economy has potential to produce products that can be marketed in the UAE, especially in agriculture.
Special accent was put on possibilities for boosting cooperation in the investments. Gruevski said that his country provides conditions for doing business, which has created low-cost package for economic operators, and the United Arab Emirates can use our country as a gateway to the realization of economic operations in Europe.
They also discussed options for cooperation on economic plan at inter-state level. Gruevski referred to project for investments in energy sector related to country’s gasification and construction of hydro power plants, investments in tourism through free tourism zones and construction of hotels, investments in agriculture, food productions and other projects that could be of interest to UAE.
Gruevski invited Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to visit Macedonia by which the high-level dialogue would continue and potential opportunities for economic cooperation would be concretized.
Al Maktoum positively assessed the country’s economic policies and expressed interest to consider visiting our country in the following period.
During the meeting a Double Tax Avoidance Agreement between the governments of the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Macedonia was signed.
They agree representatives of both sides to work on finalization of the agreement on protection of investments in the future and would provide directions for specific cooperation in the field of investments.
Interlocutors discussed the policies realized by the two countries in education sphere, adding that education is the best foundation for ensuring economic growth and development of the countries.
Gruevski during his visit to the United Arab Emirates will meet with political and economic representatives. Besides visiting the emirate of Dubai, Gruevski will visit the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
