Construction begins on Ohrid's first indoor swimming pool
The City of Ohrid began construction on an indoor swimming pool at the Biljanini Izvori lakeside sports center, which is expected to be built in 30 months for a total of 5 million EUR. Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski is paying a visit to Ohrid on Thurdsay, for the start of the construction.
"The city has a large number of swimmers and water sports lovers who were unable to exercise over he winter period. This is now changing, we have made our promise and now we are keeping it", Prime Minister Gruevski said, speaking together with Ohrid Mayor Nikola Bakraceski.
The center will have two separate pools - one for adults and one for children, a fitness club, commercial and administrative offices, a spa, a wellness center and a coffee place. It will also be energy efficient, using both solar energy and geothermal pumps. Ohrid is the best known tourism resort in Macedonia, and is the host of a major summer swimming marathon, conducted in the waters of the Lake Ohrid.
