Gruevski: €150 million worth investments in infrastructure and €100 million in medical equipment

Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski attending Sunday the opening ceremony of the new facility of the Institute for Respiratory Diseases in Children – Kozle said that investment cycle worth €150 million is ongoing in the area of health infrastructure, and investments in this part are fully realised and some are still ongoing.

Among the most important investments he mentioned the new University Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynaecology opened in 2011, the new ER Diagnosis Centre in Clinical Hospital - Tetovo, the reconstructed General Hospital in Ohrid, the reconstructed Hospital for Pulmonary Diseases and Tuberculosis "Jasenovo" in Veles, the reconstructed polyclinic "Bucharest," the PET Center which is in its final phase and is expected soon to be opened, started reconstruction of the Clinical Hospital in Bitola, and the Special Hospital for Orthopaedics and Trauma "St. Erasmus" in Ohrid, and reconstruction of General Hospital in Prilep will kick off by the end of the year.

Regarding the purchase of new medical equipment, Gruevski said that over €100 million have been invested so far aimed at improving the quality of health services in all parts of the country.

Recently we launched two new computer tomography scans, one of the University Clinic for Neurology and other in polyclinic “Jane Sandanski". Additional two computer tomographies are to be installed in the upcoming period at the University Clinic for Children's Diseases and in Special Hospital for Orthopaedics and Trauma "St. Erasmus" in Ohrid, he underlined.

He added that procurements of 6 mammography scans worth about Denar 40 million are conducted and are to be installed in hospitals in Stip, Kumanovo, Prilep, Kocani, Veles and Surgery Clinic "St. Naum Ohridski."

This will enable mammography screening for early detection of breast cancer in several locations in the country and timely treatment of this most malignant disease in women, he said.

An important segment in which we are continuously investing is education of medical staff. Since the beginning of the project in 2012, so far a total of 2084 health workers have been trained at top medical centres abroad in many different areas, Gruevski said.
