PM Dimitriev meets EC official Danielsson
The Euro-integration process of Macedonia, reform implementation and the current political situation in the country were the focal point of Tuesday’s meeting in Skopje between Emil Dimitriev, head of the government tasked with organizing elections, and Christian Danielsson, the European Commission Director-General for EU Neighbourhood and Enlargement.
The interlocutors underscored the need and commitment to organizing fair, credible and democratic elections concurring that all political parties should demonstrate commitment to strengthening confidence in the election process.
“Caretaker PM Dimitriev said the main priority of the government was to organize fair, credible and democratic elections on June 5 paving the way to resolving the political state in the country and forming a government completely devoted to implementing reforms and projects in the interests of the citizens”.
Dimitriev, it added, pointed out the support provided by the caretaker government to the needs and requests of the State Election Commission with respect to editing the voter’s list. “Despite its limited mandate and in line with its competencies, the government is equally committed to implementing projects and reforms envisaged in its program.”
The interlocutors also emphasized the importance of continuous reform implementation so as to improve standards and fulfill Macedonia’s European integration agenda, which remains the subject of joint cooperation in the future.
During his visit to Skopje, Danielsson is scheduled to meet with the leaders of the four largest political parties in Macedonia.
His visit comes as Parliament is set to dissolve on 7 April, paving way for early parliamentary polls on 5 June.
On Monday, the EC official met with Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki in Brussels.
