Lazar Licenoski art gallery opened in Skopje

Minister of Culture Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska opened Wednesday an art gallery located at the premises of the Lazar Licenoski state art high school. The opening of the gallery wraps up year-long observances aimed to mark a great milestone - 110 years since the birth of Lazar Licenoski, who is one of the founders of Macedonia's visual arts.

"The art gallery is a historic achievement for all of us, because as of today creative works will be displayed by those generations shaping fine and applied arts in Macedonia," said Kanceska-Milevska.

She noted that future Macedonian artists would organise their first exhibits in the art gallery before joining the European and global art scenes.

Established in 1945, the Lazar Licenoski art high school has paved the way for the contemporary fine art in Macedonia to be developed.

"This opening is of great importance for the art education and culture in the country. A gallery is being opened for the first time at an art school and a dream has finally come true for many of its alums," school's principal Icko Petreski said.
