Pesevski: Western Balkan countries not tired of EU integration process
Western Balkan countries are not tired from EU's integration process despite Britain's pending exit from the Union. Countries still see the EU as their main market and opportunity for progress of their economies, Vice Premier for Economic Affairs Vladimir Pesevski told a business forum in Paris on Monday.
Pesevski said the business forum, held within the 3. Western Balkans Summit of the Berlin Process, is an effort by the EU for enhancement of the integration process of Balkan countries, which are still not part of the Union, in the economy sector.
"In this regard, Macedonia is using allocated funds for construction of the long-distance power line to Albania, but also other projects", said the Vice Premier.
According to him, the summit aims at increasing the cooperation among countries in several fields, such as energy, infrastructure, transport, but also digital technology.
"It is important for Macedonia to be here and promote its achievements, because it has gone the furthest compared to other regional countries regarding business reforms. This was also noted by World Bank experts present at the forum. We should continue on this path, despite the prolonged political crisis. Economy remains the main focus in Macedonia and the EU", added Pesevski.
The business forum was attended by companies and chambers from the Western Balkans and French companies showing interest for investments in the region.
The summit of heads of states and governments, hosted by French President Francois Hollande, is to be held later today. Prime Minister Emil Dimitriev heads the Macedonian delegation at the summit, also including the PMs of Albania, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini.
