PM Dimitriev: Flood damage assessed in more than 3,500 homes
Forty damage assessment teams are already operating in flood-affected areas. So far, 3,500 homes have been visited, whereas 15 teams tasked with assessing croplands have visited nearly 800 lots thus far, Prime Minister Emil Dimitriev stated Wednesday while visiting the flood-hit village of Creshevo.
“Taking into consideration the number of damaged households, this time the assessment procedure is implemented much quicker than before. So far, over 3,500 houses have been assessed with 40 teams being deployed to assess houses and 15 teams are assessing agricultural lands,” Dimitriev said adding he was satisfied with the tempo of the assessment process.
The government, he added, has adopted a set of measures addressing flood consequences under which agricultural land will be analyzed for free.
“Three years ago, lands have been assessed to determine their quality and right now we are assessing whether natural disasters have caused damage and to what extend it will affect the quality of the land. Experts are tasked with analyzing the situation and presenting recommendations to repair the damage it order farmers to continue their activities, since livelihood of majority of the people living in the flood-hit areas depends on agriculture,” noted PM Dimitriev.
He said damage assessment teams were doing their job quite quickly, which meant that damage compensation would be paid as soon as possible.
In and around Creshevo village, nearly 14 kilometers of roads have been cleaner, water has been pumped out of all the houses in addition to being disinfected and 1,100 meters of canals have been unclogged.
