Dimitriev and Borisov meet at the Riga summit
Macedonian caretaker Prime Minister Emil Dimitriev, who is in Riga for the summit between China and the Central and Eastern European countries, met with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov. The two discussed work on the infrastructure projects connecting Macedonia and Bulgaria, some of whom are supported by Chinese development credits.
The Macedonian Government informed that Borisov and Dimitriev also discussed the prospects for NATO enlargement and for opening European Union accession talks for Macedonia, both of which were stalled on Greek objections. Dimitriev and Borisov also discussed the need to increase economic cooperation and tourism between the two neighboring countries, and to work together to mitigate the effects of the migrant and refugee crisis.
Also in Riga, Macedonian Foreign Affairs Minister Nikola Poposki met with his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto. The main issues, according to the Foreign Ministry press release, were also the prospects for EU and NATO integration for Macedonia and the migrant crisis. Both Macedonia, Hungary and Bulgaria found themselves on the Balkan migrant route, that was largely closed this Spring.
Some 16 European countries attend the regular summit with China, which is represented by Prime Minister Li Keqiang. The participating countries are discussing joint European infrastructure projects, trade and cultural exchange at these summits.
