Poposki - Kurz: We’ve demonstrated that Macedonia and Austria can have an excellent cooperation
The contribution of the Republic of Macedonia in closing the Balkan migrant route has been emphasized again today by the chief of the Austrian MFA and chairman of OSCE, Sebastian Kurz, who along with his host, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Poposki paid a visit to border stone 59 at the Macedonian- Greek border crossings, near Gevgelija.
Poposki in his statement at the yesterday press conference said that there were crisis situations at border stone 59 in the past, but during the process a good opportunity for cooperation between Macedonia and EU member states especially Austria and our Greek colleagues, has been recognized.
-Macedonian partnership with Austria, he added, is not only in terms of economy, where we have over 40 Austrian investors, but also in terms of security, the fight against radicalization, violent extremism, connecting the two countries, and that is the European project.
- In the past have shown that we can have an excellent cooperation, Poposki said adding that Macedonia particularly appreciates Austria's support for EU integration process of the region.
Kurz thanked Macedonia once again, for, he said, bearing the pressure and for contributing to dealing with the migrant crisis.
- We have reduced the route by 98 percent, compared to 2015. In the past four months, number of people have reached Europe as equal as in one or two days in the past, Kurz said.
