Macedonia will find solutions even without your meddling, Dimitriev tells Rama
Recurring interference in the internal affairs of the Republic of Macedonia is highly detrimental to neighboring relations all the while breaching European values, Macedonian Premier Emil Dimitriev says Thursday in a letter to his Albanian counterpart Edi Rama.
"Trust me, it helps no one. (This interference) won't help Albania, whose citizens are expecting from you to address shortcomings in rule of law and the economy. It's won't help the EU ether, because it's clear to them that you are only seeking excuses to trigger quarrels abroad in order not to focus the attention on what you have done or what you haven't done at home. It also won't help Macedonia, whose citizens want a sovereign and independent country within its present borders. Its citizens are paying the price of your alleged ambitions to redefine Macedonia, instead to reform Albania within its existing borders. It also won't help the parties in Macedonia, which you underestimate in an inadequate manner and have been treating them assuming the role of patron," states Dimitriev.
I am confident, he adds, even without your meddling we will find solutions to our challenges and finally, it is pretty irresponsible of you to be stirring up nationalistic tension.
"Albanian language is widely represented in Macedonia. Albanian, as well as Turkish, Serbian, Vlach, Bosnian and Roma, alongside Macedonian language, is part of the culture and richness of Macedonia. We are providing major funds to promote the languages and culture of our communities. It would be nice if you had followed our example. Not so long ago in Albania, some people had to close the windows of their homes if they had been speaking their mother tongue so that no one would hear them. We have never had that experience," notes the Macedonian PM.
The citizens of Macedonia, Dimitriev says, regardless of their ethnic and religious background have endured so many crises on their own, they persevere once again.
"Our common goal is to keep building a strong civil society, which will be part of the Euro-Atlantic family," Dimitriev tells Edi Rama in his letter.
