Measures towards reducing number of asylum seekers resume: PM
The state will continue to implement activities towards further reduction of asylum seekers in European countries through improvement of the economic situation and informing people they cannot get asylum because they do not come from a country of political turmoil or in war, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski told reporters on Tuesday.
Gruevski said he was aware that the Roma population sought asylum from economic reasons, adding efforts are invested towards improving their state.
"We are trying to improve their living conditions as much as we can. Other programs are aimed at their employment or education", he stressed.
Moreover, he referred to the information campaign over the consequences from seeking asylum.
"The campaign will tour nationwide, telling Roma they should not succumb to manipulations from travel agencies of individuals, who want to make money by using their difficulties. They will only lose time and money, since statistics show that almost all asylum seekers have been brought back", said PM Gruevski.
He announced that similar activities would intensify in the course of next year.
