Minister Bejta meets Hungarian ambassador
Minister of Local Self-Government Nevzat Bejta met Tuesday with Hungarian ambassador to Macedonia, Jozsef Bencze for talks on establishing cooperation in several spheres, such as local self-government, economy and twining of several Macedonian and Hungarian towns.
Minister Bejta said he had visited Hungary, where he met with Minister of Internal Affairs, Sándor Pintér.
Macedonia can learn from the experience of Hungary, being a member of EU, and how the country uses EU funds.
"We came here upon a request by Minister Pintér, who asked us to tell the minister that a local self-government group needs to be formed and sent to Hungary to study the country's experience - our system of local self-government, the way the system is financed and the opportunity for using European funds," Bencze said.
Hungary has been a member of the European Union for eight years. "Hungary regards Macedonia as its strategic partner. It has been backing Macedonia and its European integration since the beginning," the ambassador stated, vowing that Hungary's support would continue in the future.
Ambassador Bencze stressed the importance of establishing an economic cooperation. The premiers of Macedonia and Hungary have signed an economic cooperation agreement last year.
"The government of Hungary and the interior ministry are prepared to share its experiences with Macedonia. It is crucial for us to establish a cooperation in local self-government. Our goal is launch town twining," Bencze noted.
