Accession dialogue is a step ahead toward EU integration - Vice PM Arifi
The accession dialogue is not a replacement for start of EU entry talks, however it offers a great opportunity in order reforms to be resumed and intensified, especially in relation to chapters 23 and 24, Vice PM in charge of EU integration, Teuta Arifi told a press conference on Friday.
According to her, the high-level dialogue - which is to be led by Premier Nikola Gruevski - is an opportunity that needs to be seized, because it will enable the country to make further progress while also leaving room for the process aimed at settling the name issue to take place.
Speaking about her trip to Athens on Wednesday, where she met with the Greek Vice PM Theodoros Pangalos, Arifi said that the intention was to open and facilitate the EU integration process of Macedonia. She expressed her expectations that the meeting would instigate fresh talks between Athens and Skopje.
With respect to the letter by PM Gruevski to his Greek counterpart Lucas Papademos, Arifi said she handed over the letter in good spirit, stressing that in order the process to succeed, it should be led more discretely.
"I think that reactions will follow. I only handed over the letter. Regarding the seriousness of the entire process, I believe that it needs to be treated more discretely and it shouldn't be a topic for discussion in the media," the Vice PM noted.
Asked whether she had any information if UN mediator Matthew Nimetz was planning to visit Macedonia and Greece in due time, Arifi said it would be a positive signal.
"Macedonia is prepared to welcome him. I hope there will be a positive atmosphere in the two capitals, It would be a positive signal for the process, Vice PM Arifi stated at a press conference presenting her recent activities.
