Committee addressing recommendations from final OSCE/ODIHR election report constituted

Steering Committee for addressing recommendations from the final OSCE/ODIHR report regarding the 2011 early elections was constituted in the Government on Friday.

The first recommendations that the Committee will focus on are related to electoral legislation and Voters List.

"We agreed that the most important issues in the latest final report - Voters List and electoral legislation - require the establishment of working groups within the State Election Commission (SEC) and the Justice Ministry. They will submit a report by mid-March, followed by another Committee meeting", said Vice Premier for European Affairs Teuta Arifi, who chairs the Committee.

She stressed the session focused on the dynamics of the operations by the Committee and the working groups, as well as the results to be achieved by the end of June, towards improving the electoral process, although the latest one was assessed as transparent, open and democratic.

Head of the OSCE Mission to Macedonia Ralf Breth stressed they would provide full support to the Government in bringing electoral practices in full compliance with international standards.

"The Committee needs to define its activities and a clear agenda, in order to address the latest ODIHR recommendations resulting from the final report on the 2011 elections", added Breth.

Vice Premier Arifi chairs the Committee, also including Ministers of Justice, Interior and Foreign Affairs, Ambassadors of OSCE, EU and United States, SEC president and representative of civic association MOST.
