Fresh package of measures to improve Macedonia's competitiveness

Nearly 50 measures aimed at improving the competitiveness of Macedonia's economy are being discussed at a session of the government's Economic Council on Monday.

Vice PM in charge of economic affairs, Vladimir Pesevski stated that the objective of the set of measures was to advance Macedonia's ranking in forthcoming reports on global competitiveness, to boost country's competitiveness and prompt economic growth.

"Now the first step is being made considering the measures launched to improve competitiveness. A second package is expected to be promoted in June," Pesevski said.

A survey will be conducted in following months amongst companies that will be asked to state their opinion about conditions for running a business and the competitiveness of Macedonia's economy.

Macedonia has made a headway in terms of its competitiveness in recent years. "However, there is room to improve Macedonia's ranking in the Global Competitiveness Report, where the country is ranked 79th," he stated.
