The President of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev and His Holiness Pope Francis had a meeting within the frames of the program for the Apostolic Visit of His Holiness and Pontiff of the Catholic Church.
The meeting reiterrated the centuries-long relation between the Papal State and North Macedonia, which was established with the Mission of the Pan-Slavic luminaries, the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius and by remembering their work that is jointly celebrated each year in Rome and Vatican.
Prime Minister Zaev at the meeting said that this Apostolic Visit is an inspiration for the people of North Macedonia and appealed to the Pope to pray for the well-being of the citizens and the country.
Furthermore, this meeting confirmed the efforts of the Republic of North Macedonia to continue its affirmation as a country of unity and tolerance by following the example of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius who in 1980 were proclaimed for protectors of Europe by Vatican. Pope Francis also met with Prime Minister Zaev’s family – his wife Zorica and their daughter Aleksandra, who joined them at the end of the meeting.
