Minister Poposki Meets Mediator Nimetz

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia, Nikola Poposki, met Monday with the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General in the Macedonia-Greece talks over the name dispute, Mr. Matthew Nimetz. The meeting with Mr. Nimetz which took place at the Skopje headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia was scheduled with a view to discussing the possibilities for overcoming the differences in the name dispute with the Hellenic Republic.

In his discussion with Mr. Nimetz, Minister Poposki reaffirmed the interest of the Republic of Macedonia in promptly becoming a member state of both NATO and the EU. Following up to this position, Minister Poposki once again underlined the dedication of the Republic of Macedonia to the talks with the Hellenic Republic aimed at finding a mutually acceptable solution to the name dispute, which would be key to making progress in the Euro-Atlantic integration of the Republic of Macedonia. On that occasion, Minister Poposki reemphasized the importance of the Judgment of the International Court of Justice in The Hague establishing Greece’s violation of the 1995 Interim Accord.
