Minister Poposki Meets Diplomatic Advisor to French President in Paris

As part of his ongoing visit to Paris, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia, Nikola Poposki, had a meeting today with the Diplomatic Advisor and Sherpa to the President of the French Republic, Mr. Jeanne-David Levitte.

At the meeting, Minister Poposki presented to his host the expectations of the Republic of Macedonia for NATO membership, as well as for opening accession negotiations with the European Union. Furthermore, Minister Poposki introduced Mr. Levitte to the legal aspects of the Judgment of the International Court of Justice establishing that Greece has violated the Interim Accord it concluded in 1995 with the Republic of Macedonia, expressing, at the same time, his expectation that this important argument will be acknowledged and properly supported by the member states of both NATO and the EU. In that context, Mr. Poposki expressed his hope that the credibility of the Union’s enlargement with the Western Balkan countries will be preserved while offering his assurance that the Republic of Macedonia will, in the mean time, continue making an active contribution to regional stability and security by unswervingly implementing the reforms related to the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of the country.

Mr. Levitte, on his part, reaffirmed the official French position of offering active support to the Union’s enlargement with the Western Balkan countries and, in that context, with the Republic of Macedonia, acknowledging, at the same time,  the country’s role as a credible partner in the region of Southeast Europe.
