FM Poposki expects NATO to acknowledge Macedonia's contribution and achievements

Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Poposki attended Thursday a meeting of the North Atlantic Council dedicated to the ISAF mission in Afghanistan.

In his speech, FM Poposki once again confirmed Macedonia's military presence in Afghanistan and its efforts made to train Afghan forces to secure country's security.

Poposki in the past couple of days held talks in Brussels with his counterparts from Canada, the Netherlands, Poland and Greece.

"At the bilateral meetings, the need of maintaining NATO's basic values was underscored from the point of view of regional security and in acknowledging the law at the highest possible level. We believe that Macedonia rightfully deserves to join NATO and hopefully other members, including Greece, will think the same," the minister stated after the meetings.

Considering the forthcoming summit in Chicago, Poposki said he least expected conclusions from previous summits to be reiterated. "I hope Macedonia's progress will be acknowledged, its contribution to the ISAF mission as well as the judgement of the International Court of Justice," he added.

FM Poposki and his Montenegrin counterpart Milan Rocen signed on Thursday a treaty enabling the citizens of Macedonia and Montenegro to cross borders just with biometric IDs.
