SSM hosts May Day conference

The Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia (SSM) hosts Monday a conference on occasion of International Workers' Day (May Day), dedicated to mobbing and its consequences.

SSM is set to launch a campaign under motto "Let's Protect Human Dignity by Passing an Anti-Mobbing Law".

"We are starting a new campaign aimed at specific and practical results. Several crucial laws have recently been adopted, such as the Law on Minimal Salary, along with development of the social dialogue. We have also ratified several international conventions, including the ones for public procurements and protection of motherhood", said SSM president Zivko Mitrevski.

Trade unions decided to observe this year's May Day holiday through training workshops over the possible adoption of the anti-mobbing law.

Minister of Labor and Social Policy Spiro Ristovski congratulated May Day to all workers on the Government's behalf.

"The conference is the best way to discuss open issues we need to tackle in the coming period towards improving the status and rights of workers in the country. As a result of talks in recent years, the trade unions, assisted by employers, but also through the Government's activities, have achieved results significantly improving the workers' status", added Ristovski.

According to him, today's conference would produce fresh ideas over the necessity to adopt a separate anti-mobbing law.
