PM Gruevski: Our conscious is clear, Macedonia doing its best for NATO membership

Ahead of NATO Summit in Chicago Macedonia's conscious is clear as the state leadership and all other authorities have done their best for the country to join the Alliance, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski told reporters on Friday. It is also clear that the only obstacle to Macedonia's NATO membership is Greece's blockade, he said.

"Our conscious regarding the NATO integration is clear as we have done everything in our power, working hard to that effect. The state leadership - the President, PM, Parliament Speaker, Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense, other members of the Government, MPs and all others within their competencies and abilities have done their best, even beyond, to that end," Gruevski said.

For the last few months, Macedonian officials have been lobbying for and presented the country's arguments in favor of its admission to NATO.

"We have met a vast number of NATO military, political officials, Heads of State, Government, foreign and defense ministers. We have passed thousand of kilometers trying  to reach all places to present Macedonia's stands and arguments related to this matter," Gruevski said.

It remains clear that Greece's objection is the only obstacle to Macedonia's NATO membership, as since 2008 the country has met all necessary standards for such a status, Gruevski said.

"We have acquired a lot of supporters, friends, who wish to see us soon within NATO, but we still have a problem with the country that has been blocking it, expressing no intention to change its stance, namely to enable for consensus to be reached on Macedonia's accession to NATO," Gruevski said.
