Pavle Trajanov, National Coordinator for the Prevention of Violent Extremism and Combating Terrorism
Pavle Trajanov was born on December 25, 1952 in D. Radesh, Radovish. He graduated at
the Faculty of Law (Bachelor of Laws), passed the bar exam, speaks English, Russian,
Serbian and other languages.
After graduating from the Faculty of Law, in 1977 he was employed in the Ministry of
Internal Affairs, where he performed important duties and ended his career as the Minister
of Internal Affairs.
He has been an analyst, Head of department, Head of the Security Incident Analysis and
Research Department, Advisor, Undersecretary of the Public Security Service, Assistant-
Minister for Operational Affairs and Minister of Internal Affairs (1998-1999).
He was active in the high school youth at the "Kosta Susinov" high school in Radovish,
President of the youth at the Faculty of Law and President of the youth at the Ministry of
Internal Affairs.
In 1989, together with 7 members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (the so-called " eight"
from the RSVR), announced the democratic spring in Macedonia, advocating for the
introduction of a multi-party system, thus opposing the State Security Service to continue
being a striking fist of The Communists Union and an instrument for elimination of political
opponents. Pavle Trajanov, as part of the eight in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, was
actively involved in overcoming the deformity of the security services, as well as in
reforming the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Pavle Trajanov, as Undersecretary for Public Security, made a significant contribution to the
independence of Macedonia (1991-1993), as well as the fight against crime and corruption,
especially in the fight against organized crime.
In the period 1991-1993, together with the Leadership and the members of the Ministry of
Internal Affairs, he involved the entire Security system in the support of the ideas for an
independent Macedonia.
Pavle Trajanov initiates, organizes and implements the most risky and significant operation
(in August 1991) to confiscate the military records of the reservists from the Republic
Secretariat of Defense, thus preventing tens of thousands of young reservists from being
sent to the battlefields in Yugoslavia.
Pavle Trajanov prepared the Agreement for the dislocation of the Yugoslavian National
Army from the Republic of Macedonia, organized the security of the borders by the police.
Additionally, he strongly opposed the ideas and plans of the Yugoslavian National Army for
a military coup in the Republic of Macedonia.
In 1994, he was the first to declare that there was organized crime in the Republic of
Macedonia, where public office holders as well as Ministers in the Government were
involved.
In the period 1998-1999, as the Minister of Internal Affairs he opposed the attempts for
destabilization of the Republic of Macedonia and successfully dealt with the security crisis,
extremism and terrorism. In addition, he carried out a thorough reorganization of the
Ministry of Internal Affairs, by introducing the Anti-Terrorism Center, Department for
combating organized crime, Immigration office, etc.
During 1999, under his leadership, the Republic of Macedonia accepted over 500,000
refugees from Kosovo, maintained the stability of the state and prevented the conflict from
Kosovo spilling over into the Republic of Macedonia.
In January 2000, he initiated the formation of a new political party - Democratic Union.
On March 19, 2000, at the Founding Assembly of the Democratic Union, he was elected
president of the political party.
From 2006 to 2017 and 2020 to 2024, he was a Member of the Parliament of the Republic
of Macedonia.
In 2017, the Government of the Republic of Macedonia appointed Pavle Trajanov as the
National Coordinator for the implementation of the National Platform for Reducing the Risks
of Accidents and Disasters in the Republic of Macedonia. He held this position until 2020,
when he became a member of Parliament.
Pavle Trajanov is a member and honorary PhD of sciences of the World Academy of
Sciences for Complex Security. He has written columns in "Dnevnik", has given over 320
interviews, has participated in several debates, has held over 360 press conferences, etc.
Among other projects that he prepared and submitted to the Assembly of the Republic of
Macedonia, are the decriminalization projects "DECRI" which declares a "war against
organized crime", as well as the Strategy for the phased resolution of the dispute imposed
by the Republic of Greece regarding the name of our country.
Pavle Trajanov prepared several legal projects, including:
Law on the review of facts and evidence used in court proceedings (review of staged trials)
Law on Combating Serious Forms of Organized Crime and High Corruption (establishment
of the Agency for Combating Serious Forms of Organized Crime and High Corruption), as
well as Law on Amendments to Electoral Rules proposing that the Republic of Macedonia
should be a single electoral unit.
Pavle Trajanov was or is a member of the following Parliamentary bodies:

Committee for Stabilization and Association (Joint Parliamentary Committee EU -
Republic of Macedonia)-deputy member
● Parliamentary group of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia for cooperation
with the Parliament of the State of Israel-President
● Parliamentary group of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia for cooperation
with the Parliament of the People's Republic of China-member
● Inquiry Commission to determine the circumstances of the death of the President of
the Republic of Macedonia Boris Trajkovski- member

Pavle Trajanov has been awarded and decorated, attended a large number of seminars,
courses and specialist trainings, including a seminar organized by the European Center for
Security Studies "George Marshall" in Germany, etc.
By decision of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia from August 1, 2024,
Trajanov was appointed as the National Coordinator for the prevention of violent extremism
and the fight against terrorism.
