WB: Effect of climate changes to be considered in developing economic polices
Temperature will increase and precipitation will become more variable in Macedonia as a result of climate change. In the next 40 years Macedonia will most probably face a certain shortage of water resources, particularly during the summer periods, reads the World Bank analysis, presented Wednesday at a session of the National Council for Sustainable Development.
"A new model of analyzing economic policies is being applied at global level, which should take into consideration a broader set of measures (protection of environment, citizens' social status) in favor of sustainable growth," Pesevski said.
The world Bank recommends balanced approach to water resources in the production heating, hydro energy, irrigation process, as well as the impact of climate changes on water supply and demand in the upcoming decades, said Lilia Burunciuc, Country Manager of the WB Office in Macedonia.
Macedonia should work on water resources management, she said, recommending the sustainable cities model for the capital Skopje, Burunciuc said. Investments, she said, should provide green growth, which will bring more new jobs.
The World Bank is ready, as thus far, to cooperate with the Government in implementing the recommendations, Burunciuc said.
