Emergency calls reduced, citizens respect recommendations, says Health Minister

The number of calls to and interventions by the Emergency Service has been reduced to about 70 a day, which is significantly less than previously when nearly 120-130 daily interventions were registered, Health Minister Nikola Todorov said Sunday after visiting the Emergency Medical Service in Skopje.

He added that there were evidently less interventions than last year in all segments of the health system. "Epidemiological conditions in the country in relation to acute and communicable diseases is stable, marking positive health tendencies compared to 2011."

"All indicators suggest that the government's recommendations to organize working hours from 07:00h to 15:00, construction workers to stop their out-door activities between 11:00h and 17:00h and elderly people as well pregnant women to be exempted from their duties have yielded results and there are positive health tendencies," Todorov noted.

The Emergency Medical Service in Skopje operates with 40 teams located at four points across the city.

"The Ministry of Health is seriously focused on the Emergency Medical Service because we believe that it is the first contact established between the health system and patients in emergency cases," the Minister concluded.
