Macedonia has implemented many HLAD reforms, says PM

The High-Level Accession Dialogue (HLAD) has produced good results, having a positive effect and imposing increased dynamics, said Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski on Sunday, voicing hope that Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule, who is set to pay a visit to Macedonia on Monday, would confirm this assessment.

PM Gruevski said Macedonia has worked hard in meeting the goals drawn up together with the European Commission.

"I believe we have made an enormous step forward and I hope the EC and Commissioner Fule will acknowledge this in the progress report. Of course, there are many challenges to work on. It remains to be seen what will be EC's assessment", he added.

Pertaining to his expectations over a date for beginning of accession negotiations in the progress report, the PM said this should have occurred in 2009 if not for the obstacles by certain states.

"This is not a secret, but a well-known fact that negotiations should have been launched in 2009. The same goes for 2010 and 2011, but we will see what happens this year. I hope that EU member-states will take into consideration this report, which I believe will note many positive things, and finally find a solution towards launching the negotiations", underlined PM Gruevski.
