FM Poposki pays working visit to Sweden

Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki held talks Tuesday in Stockholm with his Swedish counterpart Carl Bildt, the Ministers for EU affairs and Trade, Birgitta Ohlsson and Eva Bjorling respectively, Sofia Arkelsten, Chair of the Parliament's Foreign Policy Committee and members of the Swedish Parliamentary Group for cooperation with the Macedonian one.

Poposki-Bildt meeting focused on Macedonia's priorities for full-fledged EU membership and in this respect the country's expectations from the fortcoming report of the European Commission on its reform progress, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.

Sweden supports Macedonia's EU integration process, being committed to maintaining the credibility of the EU enlargement process, Bildt said.

Poposki elaborated Macedonia's progress in meeting the EU membership criteria, pointing out in this respect the need of appropriate validation of the individual results of each country.

Poposki also briefed Bildt on Macedonia's Chairmanship-in-Office with the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), initiating its cooperation with the Nordic Council - a successful model of regional cooperation.

Bildt to accepted the initiative, pointing out that the regional cooperation should not be burdened by the history but focused on the future.

Expectations of the fortcoming EC report on Macedonia's progress was also a subject of discussion at Poposki's meeting with Minister for EU Affairs Ohlsson, the press release reads.

Poposki and Bjorling urged for bolstering the bilateral trade cooperation and the ties of business communities by, inter alia, organizing of forums, such as the fortcoming Global Investment Summit, which to take place in Ohrid this month.

Today Poposki also gave a lecture on Macedonia's Road to the EU, organized by the EC Office in Sweden.
