Increase of budget funds allocated for science purposes: minister

An exhibition of science-research projects has opened in the Rector's Office of Skopje-based University "Ss. Cyril and Methodius", in the framework of the observance of 2012 World Science Day for Peace and Development.

Minister of Education and Science Pance Kralev said in his address that the draft-programme for the scientific-research field stipulates a 1.8-percent increase of the GDP in funds allocation by 2020.

"Despite the complex financial situation, the Government and the Ministry consider that investments in science and scientific research should increase when possible. The Government has allocated about EUR 30 million for procurement of lab equopment thus far", stressed Kralev.

Rector Velimir Stojkovski said the University is part of the joint European research space, member of all significant European and global associations.

"Despite numerous difficulties, mainly of financial nature, our professors and associates maintain science and scientific achievements at a European and global level. Science allocations have not been satisfactory for years. Joint efforts are required, by the state and universities, as well as the business community, which enjoys the fruits of scientific achievements", stressed Stojkovski.
