FM Poposki: EU members aware of Macedonia's achievements, country definitely deserves official opening of entry talks
Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki resumed Wednesday his visit to Brussels, aimed at securing larger support for opening of Macedonia's accession talks ahead of the EU Council meeting in December.
Today he held talks with EP Rapporteur on Macedonia Richard Howitt, the European Commission's Director General for Enlargement, Stefano Sannino, as well as Bulgarian MEPs.
He also met Luis Felipe Fernández de la Pena, Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia in the European External Action Service (EEAS).
I am pleased with today's talks and in general with my three-day visit to Brussels, Poposki told MIA.
At all meetings with EU officials Poposki was assured that the Union's members were being aware of Macedonia's achievements and considered that the country definitely deserved to officially commence the accession talks, the FM said.
These meetings also addressed Macedonia's relations with Greece. In this respect Poposki told his hosts that Macedonia expected for all EU members to support the decision for the country to move forward and officially start the EU entry talks.
"I believe that some political influences are going to be of vital importance and therefore I wish to reaffirm the fact that the Republic of Macedonia has been delivering continuously in regard to the EU integration process and hence expects for these achievements to be reflected in the Union's decisions on the country," Poposki said.
