Macedonia gets EUR 50 million IPA funds for railway and road infrastructure

EUR 50,3 million from the third component of the IPA funds 2012-2013 will be invested in the construction of railway and road infrastructure, said Minister of Transport and Communications Mile Janakieski at Friday's press conference.

"The European Union tender website has already announced the call for a project and tendering documentation over the construction of new railroad section Kicevo-Albania border as part of Corridor 8", said Janakieski, adding that funds need to be used by 2017 at the latest.

Priority in the railway part will be given to sections Kriva Palanka-Bulgaria border, but also Skopje-Kicevo, Veles-Bitola and Dracevo-Veles.

Regarding road infrastructure, overhaul of sections along Corridor 10, as well as an Action Plan for improvement of road safety at Corridors 8 and 10 are planned. Moreover, the operational programme will include sections Miladinovci-Skopje, Kumanovo-Miladinovci, Medzitlija-Krklino, Krklino-Prilep and Gradsko-Negotino.
