Madzirov: Threshold is my roof, suitcase my address
Writing poetry is my exile from any national and ideological framework, said poet Nikola Madzirov at Wednesday's meeting with Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska, following his worldwide reading tours in 2012.
Madzirov gave Mrs. Kanceska-Milevska an English copy of his collection "Relocated Stone", which represents a metaphor of his global journeys, promoting Macedonian culture and language through verses.
"I want to thank Mr. Madzirov for everything he has done in Macedonia's international promotion. He is the only Balkan author who recently won the European literary fellowship 'Marguerite Yourcenar' for 2013", said Minister Kanceska-Milevska.
Mr. Madzirov thanked for the continual support he has received since the publishing of his first book back in 1999.
"I cannot determine my belonging in spatial terms, the threshold has become my roof, the suitcase my address. I believe this nomadic life will continue. I always carry the Macedonian language with me, it requires no suitcase, only memory", he added.
Nikola Madzirov is an essayist and translator, laureate of a number of national and international awards and literary fellowships. His works have been translated in over 30 languages, published in collections and anthologies.
