Macedonia pays off €183 million Eurobond
The Republic of Macedonia on Tuesday paid the entire amount of an Eurobond issued in 2009, thus paying back Euro 183 million.
Deputy PM and Finance Minister Zoran Stavreski said a positive signal was being sent to investors that "Macedonia is a country with high-level macroeconomic stability that is fully meeting its own obligations, which is important for the future in joining the capital market."
"By paying off this Eurobond, the level of state debt drops to 28.5% of the GDP in the short-term. With the funds provided by the World Bank and its guarantee, we are going to pay back this amount i.e. the level of foreign exchange reserves will be restored as soon as they arrive in Macedonia," Finance Minister Stavreski told reporters on Tuesday.
He added that Macedonia was planning to pay off yet another Eurobond in 2015, launched in 2005.
