Janakieski: ministry provided new buses, highway, cheap air tickets
During 2012 the purchase of new buses has been completed, the constructed of last highway section of Corridor 10 has been finished and prices of air tickets have been reduced, Minister of Transport and Communications said at Sunday's press conference regarding the ministry's work last year.
Citizens now are driving in new 200 double-decker buses, 80 low-floor buses and 16 mini buses. Also citizens now use 15 panoramic double-decker buses or a total of 311 new buses are at disposal, Mr. Janakieski said.
Also citizens got reduced prices of air tickets through project for financial support of airliners and signed agreement with low cost airline Wizz Air, which operates in six new destinations from Skopje to Malmo, Basel, Eindhoven, Dortmund, Venice and Memmingen-Munich. In only two months since the introduction, 112.000 citizens used the favourable air tickets.
He also pointed out that €14.5 million were invested in reconstruction and construction 320 kilometers of local roads. Also last year a cornerstone was set near Demir Kapija, thus marking the start of construction works of a new 28.2 km highway section from Demir Kapija to Smokvica, as part of the Pan-European Corridor 10.
He also noted that last year, large investment cycle began in the railroad sector. The projects for reconstruction of railroad line on three sections from Tabanovce to Gevgelija are ongoing, worth € 17.6 million. We also work on providing financial means for Beljakovce to Kriva Palanka railroad line with European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and European Investment Bank.
