Opening of relocated American Corner in Skopje
New premises of the American Corner were opened Thursday in Skopje, where citizens have the chance to learn more about the United States, its culture, art, history and politics.
Opening the American Corner, which has been relocated in the new wing of the National and University Library, U.S. Ambassador Paul Wohlers said that the premises played a role in strengthening the partnership with the Ministry of Culture and the library.
"By being located in the center of the capital, it will enable the American Corner to provide information, activities and opportunities to even more citizens, especially students. Being one of the 800 corners opened around the globe, the American Corner in Skopje enables access to the latest information about the United States," the Ambassador said.
While Macedonia is facing its own challenges - political, economic and social - the American Corner is going to be a place where people will come to explore new ideas and follow their dreams for a better world, Mr. Wohlers added.
Speaking at the opening, Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska said that the American Corner was the main supporter of inter-cultural and educational exchange of experiences between the Macedonian and American public.
"The United States is Macedonia's great strategic, political, economic and cultural supporter and today we can truly be proud of what we have achieved through the years. The American Corner in Skopje, together with those in Bitola, Tetovo, Struga and Stip, is another place where we can plan the future while strengthening our partnership and sincere friendship," Mrs. Kanceska-Milevska noted.
At the new location, the American Corner will continue to provide information to the general public about the United States through books, magazines, special publications, CD-ROMs, Kindles, Internet access, and more.
