State to enhance efforts against gray economy
Enhancement of inspections, advancement of regulations, such as facilitation of employment for seasonal workers, publishing of black list of companies, measures and sanctions for transfer from informal to the formal sector are some of the activities to be undertaken by the state towards reducing gray economy.
Minister of Labor and Social Policy Spiro Ristovski and Economy Minister Valon Saraqini presented Thursday the 2013 Action Plan against Gray Economy, saying undertaken activities would be coordinated among competent institutions, resulting in lowering of the gray economy level, which currently stands at 25-30 percent.
"The Labor Ministry activities refer to employment, including institutional and preventive measures, sanctions for stimulation and facilitation of transfer from informal to formal sector, financial support for existing businesses of non-registered individuals experienced in the field etc", said Ristovski.
Minister Saraqini stressed the fight against gray economy should continue, although it has reduced in recent years through reforms in the tax system, gross salaries, regulatory guillotine, which have lowered the motif for tax evasion.
"The Action Plan stipulates enhanced inspections in the sectors of trade, hospitality and tourism, concessionaires conducting geological research and exploitation of minerals etc", he added.
Saraqini stressed the fight against gray economy should continue due to its negative effect on the country's economic parameters and its macroeconomic policy.
