Gruevski: Citizens will be consulted on every major issue
Basically, I wouldn't comment on columns, everyone has the right to present their opinion and stance. Ali Ahmeti, Branko Crvenkovski, Ljubco Georgievski, Tito Petkovski are all entitled to voice their opinion as well as the representatives of the international community, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski said Monday when asked to comment the column written by DUI leader Ali Ahmenti.
"Obviously, I also have the right to have an opinion on certain matters. But at the same time I am responsible before the citizens of Macedonia not to execute my opinions and positions without asking them in an organised referendum," stated Gruevski after a promotion of 20 editions from the project 'Translation of Books by Laureates of the Nobel Prize for Literature'.
I have no intention to prevent someone from writing columns and expressing their positions, he added. "My obligation is to be careful in what I'm doing and to consult the citizens in Macedonia about every major issue."
Asked whether he felt pressure over a possible name solution, Gruevski said: "I don't see any pressure being exerted now. I'm used to being pressured more."
"Thus far, there is only speculation and I won't focus on speculation since it is a very serious issue to go into it," the Premier said answering a journalist question on whether the name Upper Republic of Macedonia was a possible solution to the name row.
