Small hydro plant at Brestjanska river put into use

Economy Minister Valon Saraqini put into use Friday small hydro plant at Brestjanska river in Lipkovo municipality, built by company "EMK Small Hydro Plants" DOOEL Skopje, which has signed 18 water concession agreements.

"The hydro plant's total installed capacity is 607kW, with an estimated annual production of 2,500mWh. The investment amounts to approximately EUR 1,6 million", said Minister Saraqini.

Moreover, one other water concession agreement with company Sol Hydropower DOOEL Skopje for the construction of a small hydro plant at Gosinci river, also in Lipkovo, was signed. The plant's installed capacity will be 2mW, with an estimated annual output of 7,000mWh and about EUR 3 million in investments.

"These two hydro plants in Lipkovo will help the local economy, since about 70 percent of construction activities are carried out by domestic companies. Of course, we expect opening of jobs, both in the stage of construction and its maintenance", stressed Saraqini.

The Ministry of Economy has signed 70 water concession agreements for hydro plants with an installed capacity of 60mW and investments estimated at EUR 120 million. Eleven have been built thus far, with another 20 in construction.
