Donor's Conference for building of Ss Constantine and Helena Church in Skopje

Ahead of tomorrow's holiday honoring the Saints Constantine and Helena, we are gathered today to promise that we shall build a temple bearing their name in Skopje downtown, Head of Macedonian Orthodox Church HH Stefan said Sunday at the second conference for collecting donations for the church's construction.

The old church of the holy king Constantine and his mother Helena, build in 1927, was Skopje symbol until being destroyed in the 1963 quake.

"Different interests are in the focus of lives of each individual, such as family, work, state, wealth. For the Orthodox Christians it is the temple of God. That is the space of our survival, existence, identity, culture, language," HH Stefan said.

Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski said the human race always felt close to God and needed to express most intimate feeling by talking, praying to him in churches and holy temples.

He invited the present ministers, MPs, businessmen to support the initiative for building of the Saints Constantine and Helena Church.
