Trains to travel at 120km/h on Corridor 10 railway tracks

The reconstruction of a railway track from Nogaevci to Negotino, which is part of Corridor 10, should be finished in a year. It will complete the overhaul of 28 detected black spots on railway tracks across the country, where trains have to travel at low speed due to old and deteriorated tracks.

Construction works on the section will be performed by the Bulgarian company CK-13 Holding JSC, which signed Wednesday in Skopje a contract with Macedonian Railway - Infrastructure.

The 31-km section is planned to be rehabilitated in a year and funds in amount of Euro 9.5 million have been provided by the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The reconstruction is aimed at boosting the safety in rail transportation and at increasing the speed of trains from 100 to 120km/h.

"For the first time, new standard track gauges will be installed meaning that there will be better stability for trains to increase their speed up to 120 km/h, which is in line with European standards." said the director of Macedonian Railway-Infrastrcucture, Irfan Asani after signing the contract.

Today's signing of the document is an additional confirmation that the Government is committed to improving the rail transportation in Macedonia, according to Minister of Transport and Communications Mile Janakievski.

The Nogaevci-Negotino section hasn't been reconstructed since 1968.
