Cooperation established with three medical centers in Chicago
A government delegation, led by PM Nikola Gruevski that also includes Health Minister Nikola Todorov, on Wednesday visited three renowned medical centers in Chicago - Rush University Medical Center, the University of Illinois Medical Center and the Northwest Medical Clinic.
Macedonia's delegation held meetings with the management of the medical centers to sign cooperation memorandums with the Rush University Medical Center and the University of Illinois Medical Center. It was agreed efforts to be made to lay the foundations of a concrete collaboration with the Northwest Medical Clinic.
The memorandum signed with the Rush University Medical Center - one of the top five medical institutions in the United States - envisages a cooperation to be established in order Macedonian doctors to be trained at the Chicago-based clinic in the area of orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, pediatrics, radiology, cancer treatment and infectology.
In addition to education of Macedonian doctors, the memorandum with the University of Illinois Medical Center foresees renowned American doctors to come to Macedonia and conducts trainings at Macedonian healthcare institutions.
Minister Todorov highlighted the significance of the process of sharing experience and trainings both in the United States and Macedonia adding that these collaborations would considerably improve the knowledge and skills of Macedonian doctors.
"Thus, we are investing in human capital which is vital for healthcare protection," he stated.
PM Gruevski said this cooperation would be beneficial for the Macedonian citizens in need of specific medical treatment.
"These three centers are very advanced hospitals where doctors use various methods that haven't been applied in Macedonia yet... These trainings envisaged by the documents will in fact reduce the costs of our citizens also enabling better and more efficient health services in Macedonia," he noted.
The government delegation on Thursday is scheduled to visit several medical centers in Boston.
