Minister Janakieski asks for more IPA transport funds

Minister of Transport and Communications Mile Janakieski asked Tuesday for more funds from EU's pre-accession pool in the transport sector at a Brussels conference.

Minister Janakieski presented the capital railway and road infrastructure projects in the Republic of Macedonia at the annual meeting of the South East Europe Transport Observatory (SEETO).

"We have ambitious goals in period 2014-2020. Our focus will be development of Macedonia's railway network and improvement of safety in road and railway transport. Our investments along the SEETO comprehensive network will continue in the coming planning period", stressed Janakieski.

According to him, the EU should allocate more funds for development of the SEETO comprehensive network, thus enabling the region's full integration in Europe, including free flow of people and commodities, as well as liberalized and functional market economy.

The annual SEETO meeting is attended by regional ministers, representatives of the European Commission, EU member-states, international financial institutions and other transport-related organizations.

SEETO is a regional transport organization established by the Memorandum of Understanding for the development of the Core Regional Transport Network signed by the governments of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia and the United Nations Mission in Kosovo and the European Commission in 2004. Its aim is to promote cooperation on the development of the main and ancillary infrastructure on the multimodal SEETO Comprehensive Network and to enhance local capacity for the implementation of investment programmes as well as data collection and analysis on the SEETO Comprehensive Network.
