PM Gruevski meets Chief of NATO Liaison Office in Skopje

Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski held talks Wednesday with the Chief of NATO Liaison Office Skopje (NHQS), Colonel Aleksandar Aleksandrov.

At the meeting Gruevski was briefed on the NHQS activities and work, its priorities and engagement in the sphere of defense.

Aleksandrov said NHQS had been fully included in Macedonia's activities in the sphere of defense and commended the readiness and professionalism of the country's armed forces.

Gruevski and Aleksandrov expressed satisfaction of the cooperation of NHQS with the Government and other state institutions, involved in Macedonia's Euro-Atlantic integration processes.

The meeting highlighted Macedonia's commitment to lasting peace and stability as vital parts of the region's development, as well as the country's readiness to become full-fledged EU and NATO member.

Gruevski and Aleksandrov notified that a launch of the third phase of EUR 8.6 million-project for repairing bridges in the country as a good example of practical Macedonia-NATO cooperation. They agreed for the cooperation to resume in the future.

NHQS was created in Apr 02 by the amalgamation of two HQs, namely KFOR REAR and AMBER FOX. The mission is to advise Macedonia Government authorities on military aspects of security sector reform in order to contribute to further Euro-Atlantic integration and provide support to NATO-led operations within the Balkans Joint Area of Operations.
