Reconstruction of railway section Kumanovo-Beljakovce begins in March 2014

The reconstruction of railway Corridor 8, 31km-long railway section Kumanovo-Beljakovce is to begin in March 2014.

Representatives of Macedonian Railways Infrastructure Skopje and German company Wiebe GmbH & Co.KG signed Friday an agreement on realisation of the project amounting to €39.753.000 by third quarter in 2016.

Wiebe GmbH & Co.KG will implement the project in accordance with the agreement. Our goal as a company is to purchase the materials from your country and to hire local residents to work on the project. Certainly, the railway tracks will be provided outside your country, Wolfgang Kortern, Wiebe GmbH & Co.KG representative, said.

Minister of Transport and Communications Mile Janakieski said by signing of the agreement the project for construction of a railway line to the border with Bulgaria became a reality. Today, we are fulfilling the promise, the agreement on reconstruction to be signed by year-end, Janakieski said.

The two remaining sections of the railway leading to Bulgaria, which is to be completed by 2022, are Beljakovce-Kriva Palanka (36km) and Kriva Palanka-Deve Bair (23km).
